    Professional Career

    Fierce Wombat Games (July, 2011 - Present) - Game Programmer

     

    FWG is a startup game studio working on publishing an original title on tablets and Steam. Mark works on any development task that is needed though usually lives within the Sound, Input, User Interface, and Gameplay parts of the engine. His previous work on multiple platforms proves to be great asset to the small team developing in a variety of environments and on various systems.

     

    Total Immersion Software, Inc. (August, 2009 - July, 2011) - Software Engineer

     

    TIS is a simulation company primarily focused on the development of RealWorld (R), a PC-based platform that enables non-programmers to rapidly build 2D/3D geospecific simulation. Mark works in the Alameda studio whose focus continues to be on the front end product TIS offers as well as project specific items which are covered under NDA. His skills lend greatly to his work as a general programmer and has continued to give him experience in software and team projects.

     

    THX Ltd. (July 2007 – June 2009) – Games Software Programmer

     

    Although many of Mark’s tasks are covered under NDAs, most of his projects consist of adapting existing THX Technologies into a fashion that game developers can utilize. He has also had the privilege to support and interact with the industry leaders in the Cinema, Video Certification, Sound Certification, and other divisions of THX’s operations. He has also been called upon to offer advice on brand development and business development as it relates to THX in the game industry. Mark has been able to grow immensely while working at THX and continues to expand his skills, knowledge, and experience every day.

     

    Scorched Planets (May 2007) – Asset Lead

     

    “Scorched Planets” was a 5 month project that finished out his schooling at Full Sail. With his team, Adam, Iv, Brendon, Tim, and Anna, he was able to expand his skills and develop one of the best student games to come out of Full Sail. If you would like to play the game, download the game in the Downloads section of the website. The game is for Windows XP and holds no guarantee to work or operate correctly outside of the system requirements mentioned on the website, www.scorchedplanets.com.

     

    Mark’s title in this thesis project was Asset Lead which gave him tasks such as managing art and sound resources as well as interacting with the Full Sail Art Team, Full Sail Sound Team, and a Digital Arts Degree Student Team to provide art assets and music assets for the game. The tight schedule of the project provided a big challenge in managing the pipeline of assets and in-game integration. Mark’s hobbies and skills allowed him to work effectively with all aspects of the game production along with honing his time management and milestone experience. This project proved extremely valuable to Mark’s career in managing new projects, schedules, and delivering required projects on time for milestones and deadlines.

    Mark Gugler plays the Steel Pan and Trombone with many years of playing Jazz and Classical music both in a professional and school setting. Mark has gigged are various events, restaurants, and venues whether it is a party where he plays his steel pan with accompaniment or whether he is sitting in a big band or orchestra with his trombone or tuba. He enjoys playing music whenever he gets the chance so if he is in your area feel free to email him about coming to a jam session or group practice.

    GT: Jazz Malang

    Jazz Malang is Mark Gugler’s alias and gamer tag. The name was conceived when Mark first signed onto Xbox Live and wanted something that would be unique, but easy to see, read and say when playing online. Jazz was chosen as a quick fun name that people can easily say during gameplay. Malang is a clever combination of Mark’s full name. When adding Jazz Malang to any friends list, contacts, etc. please include a message or contact Mark to let him know how and why you have added him. This will increase the chances of the friend request being accepted and will let Mark know who you are in the process.

     

    Mark’s current attitude to playing games online is relaxed, competitive, but overall that it should be fun. There will always be drama and people acting out because of the anonymous environment that the online medium provides, but Mark plays to relax and enjoy video games with family, friends, and colleagues.
